Cost of Community trade marks fall by 40%
on 1 May
Many readers of Alicante News will already be
aware that from 1 May, 2009 the cost of having a Community trade mark
will fall by around 40%. This will be the second decrease in price
since the CTM was introduced in 1996, and comes after several years of
discussion with the European Commission and the member states.
In future, there will be a single CTM
fee, replacing the current system of separate application and
registration fees. For an application made online (over 80% now come
via the Internet) the new fee will be €900, and for a paper
application it will be €1050.

The next April 26 is celebrated on World
Intellectual Property Organization, established in 2000 by the World
Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
This year we want to emphasize eco-innovation as key to the future.
Green innovation (the creation and dissemination of technology for
remedy to climate change) is the key to avoid depleting the resources
of our planet. The best way to restore the delicate balance between us
and our environment is through the power of ingenuity.
Intellectual property includes both intellectual property and
industrial property. The latter gives legal protection to patents,
trademarks and industrial designs whose processing and concession in
Spain, by the Office Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (SPTO).
